Minecraft Potion Chart
Every brewing recipe in Java Edition: what to brew from, which ingredient to add, and how long it lasts — plus the redstone (longer) and glowstone (level II) versions. We brewed all 46 recipes in a real brewing stand on the official Java 26.3 server.

How to brew a potion
Water bottles
Fill glass bottles at water and put up to 3 in the brewing stand.
Nether wart
Add nether wart to make Awkward Potions — the base for most potions.
Main ingredient
Add the ingredient from the chart, e.g. sugar for Swiftness.
Modify it
Redstone makes it last longer, glowstone makes it stronger, gunpowder makes it splash, dragon's breath makes it lingering.
Splash and lingering potions
Add gunpowder to any potion to make a splash potion (same duration). Add dragon's breath to a splash potion to make a lingering potion, which leaves a cloud; its effect lasts ¼ of the normal time. Tick "Show lingering durations" above to see them.
Fuel
The brewing stand needs blaze powder as fuel. One blaze powder powers 20 brewing operations.
Frequently asked questions
What is the most useful potion?
For exploring, Fire Resistance (magma cream) and Night Vision (golden carrot). For fighting, Strength (blaze powder) and Healing (glistering melon slice).
Why can't I brew a potion of Luck?
The Potion of Luck exists in the game but has no brewing recipe in survival.
Are these recipes up to date?
Yes. Each recipe was tested in a brewing stand on the official Java 26.3 server; durations come from the Minecraft Wiki.
