All 16 colour codes (§0–§f), the formatting codes (§k–§r) and Bedrock's extra material colours, with hex values. Type text with & codes in the editor to see a live preview and copy it for signs, books, a server MOTD or a /tellraw command.

How to use colour codes
| Where | What to type |
|---|---|
| Books, signs (Java, with plugins) and many server plugins | § or & + code, e.g. &6Gold |
server.properties motd |
\u00A7 + code, e.g. \u00A76Welcome |
| Commands (/tellraw, /title) | A text component, e.g. {"text":"Hi","color":"gold"} |
| Bedrock chat, signs and books | § + code (hold Alt and type 0167 for § on Windows) |
A colour code resets bold, italic and the other formats in Java, so put formatting codes after the colour.
Java vs Bedrock
The 16 colours work in both editions. Bedrock adds material colours (§g, §h … §v), and on Bedrock §m and §n are colours, not strikethrough and underline. Underline and strikethrough only work in Java.
Frequently asked questions
What is the § symbol?
The section sign. Minecraft uses it to start a colour or format code. Many plugins let you type & instead.
Are the /tellraw commands tested?
Yes. We checked the text components this tool writes on the official Java 26.3 server.
How do I make obfuscated (scrambling) text?
Use §k (or &k). The text shows as random changing characters.
