How to Use a Seed Map
Updated 2026-09-27 · MC Seed Maps
To use a seed map, paste your world's seed into the seed map, choose the same Java version and dimension your world uses, and turn on the structure layers you care about. Then click a marker to copy a /tp command or read its X and Z coordinates, and travel there in your world.
This guide walks through every part of the MC Seed Maps seed map and explains how to get results you can trust.
What do I need before I start?
You need your world's seed and the version it was created in.
- Java Edition: type
/seedin chat. It works in singleplayer even with cheats off. Click the number to copy it. - Bedrock Edition: open the world's Edit world screen to see and copy the seed.
See how to find your seed for servers and more detail.
How do I enter a seed?
Open the seed map on our homepage and paste the seed into the seed box. You can use:
- A numeric seed, like the number
/seedgives you. - A text seed, like a word or phrase you typed when creating the world.
The map runs entirely in your browser. Your seed is not sent to our server.
Which version and dimension should I pick?
Pick the exact Java version your world was generated in. Updates can change what the same seed produces, so a wrong version gives you a wrong map.
| Setting | Options | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Java version | 26.3, 26.2, 26.1, 1.21.x, 1.20.x, 1.19.x, 1.18.x | All Java versions Verified in-game (Bedrock biomes: Verified) |
| Dimension | Overworld, Nether, End | Switch to plan portals, fortresses or End cities |
| Structure layers | One toggle per structure type | Turn off what you do not need to keep the map readable |
For Bedrock worlds, use the separate Bedrock seed map. The wiki states that 64-bit seeds give the same terrain and biomes on Java and Bedrock, but structures generate differently. So the Bedrock mode shows biomes only. We checked those biomes against the official Bedrock server, so they are labelled Verified.
How do I read the map?
Move your cursor over the map to see the X and Z coordinates and the biome under it. Colours show biomes, and icons show structures.
A few habits help:
- Start near X 0, Z 0 and zoom out to get a feel for the area. The spawn finder shows where the world spawn actually is.
- Hover over a biome edge to check exactly where one biome ends and the next begins.
- Use the go-to-coordinates box to jump to where you are standing in-game. On Java, press
F3in the game to see your position.
How do I turn structure layers on and off?
Use the layer toggles. Each structure type has its own switch, so you can show only villages, or only strongholds, or several at once. Fewer layers make the map easier to scan, especially when zoomed out.
If you only want the nearest few of one structure, the finder pages are faster. They list the closest structures around a point, sorted by distance, with a mini map and a copy button for the /tp command:
| Looking for | Finder |
|---|---|
| Villages | Village finder |
| Strongholds | Stronghold finder |
| Trial chambers | Trial chamber finder |
| Ancient cities | Ancient city finder |
| Nether fortresses | Nether fortress finder |
| Anything else | Structure finder hub |
How do I copy coordinates or a /tp command?
Click a structure marker. The map copies a /tp command for that spot, which you can paste into chat. On Java Edition, /tp needs cheats (permission level 2), so use it in a creative or test copy of your world. In survival without cheats, read the X and Z instead and walk or fly there.
How do I mark a structure as visited?
Mark it as visited from the marker. This is handy when you are looting many villages or checking several trial chambers. Your visited list is saved in your browser, on the device you used. If you clear your browser data or switch devices, the list will not follow you.
How do I share a map view?
Use the share link. It opens the map at the exact view you are looking at. Send it to friends on your server so everyone looks at the same area without typing coordinates.
How do I find a biome or my spawn?
Use the tools built for those jobs.
- Biome finder: pick a biome and get the nearest locations of it.
- Spawn finder: see where the world spawn is for a seed.
- Slime chunk finder: find slime chunks on Java.
- Nether portal calculator: convert Overworld and Nether coordinates to link portals.
If you do not have a world yet, the seed generator gives you random seeds with optional filters, such as a village near spawn. Open any result on the map to check it before you create the world.
How accurate is the seed map?
The map predicts positions from world generation, using the open-source cubiomes library. That is the same kind of logic the game uses, but it is still a prediction.
Two things can cause a mismatch:
- Terrain. The game can refuse to place some structures where the land does not fit, even when placement rules allow them.
- The wrong settings. A different version, edition or dimension gives a different map.
Before a long trip, confirm the target in a test copy of your world:
/locate structure minecraft:village_plains
On Java Edition, /locate needs permission level 2, and it shows clickable coordinates in chat. Swap in the structure you want, for example minecraft:trial_chambers, minecraft:ancient_city or minecraft:stronghold.
Step-by-step: from seed to structure
- Copy your seed with
/seed(Java) or from the Edit world screen (Bedrock). - Open the seed map and paste the seed.
- Pick your Java version and the dimension.
- Turn on the structure layers you want.
- Hover to read X, Z and biome; click a marker to copy
/tp. - Confirm with
/locate structurein a test world. - Travel there, then mark it as visited.
What does the seed map not do?
It does not show ores on the map itself (use the ore finder for diamonds and ancient debris), and it does not show dungeons (monster rooms), which our engine does not support. On Bedrock it does not show structures yet. We would rather leave a feature out than show you positions we cannot stand behind.
Frequently asked questions
Is the seed map free to use?
Yes. The seed map on our homepage runs in your browser, and your seed is not uploaded.
Which Minecraft versions does the seed map support?
Java 26.3, 26.2, 26.1, 1.21.x, 1.20.x, 1.19.x and 1.18.x. All of them are labelled Verified: we tested each one in-game. Bedrock has a separate biome-only mode.
Why is a structure on the map missing in my world?
Map positions are predictions from world generation. Terrain can stop some structures from generating, and a wrong version choice also causes mismatches. Confirm with /locate structure before a long trip.
Can I use the seed map for Bedrock?
Use the Bedrock seed map. It shows biomes only, because structure positions differ on Bedrock and we do not show them yet.
Does the map remember which structures I visited?
Yes. You can mark structures as visited, and that list is saved in your browser on your device.
