Where do buried treasure spawn?
Buried treasure is a single chest hidden under the sand of Beach and Snowy Beach biomes in the Overworld. In Java Edition it always sits at block 9 of its chunk on both the X and Z axis, so once you know the chunk you know exactly where to dig. Every chest holds a Heart of the Sea.
How to find buried treasure without a seed map
- Loot buried treasure maps from shipwreck map chests or ocean ruin chests; the X on the map marks the spot.
- Stand on the X, press F3 and find the block that is 9 into the chunk on both X and Z (Java).
- Dig down at that block; the chest is buried out of sight.
- Use
/locate structure minecraft:buried_treasurein a creative test copy of your world to check a spot.

Does every buried treasure have a Heart of the Sea?
Yes. It is guaranteed in every buried treasure chest.
Why is there no chest at the coordinates?
Positions are predictions from world generation, and terrain can stop the chest from generating. Check that your seed and version match, and confirm with /locate.
Does it work for Bedrock?
Not yet. Bedrock places treasure at a different spot in the chunk and structure positions differ for the same seed. Our Bedrock mode shows biomes only.
